JACKSON, Miss., Oct. 24 -- The Mississippi Department of Education issued the following news release:

Putting a statewide emphasis on raising graduation rates is one of the best way to make sure more students walk away from high school with a diploma, according to study released Thursday by the nonprofit organization The Education Trust.
