MONTGOMERY, Ala., July 1 -- Gov. Bob Riley, R-Ala., issued the following column:
In just a few days Americans will celebrate our nation's independence declared 232 years ago. On this July 4, we find ourselves in a different type of struggle for independence - energy independence. Like the Revolutionary War and all the fights for freedom we've endured since, this is a battle we cannot afford to lose. Yet we will unless Congress begins taking action immediately to end our dependence . . .
